Mr. Nguyễn Hữu Oanh, Vice Head of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs, confirmed that the Vesak 2008 will help to strengthen mutual understanding among peoples and Buddhist communities in various countries, raise the position of the Vietnamese Buddhism in the region and the world, and reflect the Vietnamese State’s active participation in the UN’s activities.

The Vietnamese Government established a national coordinating committee to regulate and link activities of State bodies, localities and the IOC in organizing the Vesak.
