Under the seafood processing development plan, said the Deputy Minister, by 2015, Việt Nam will attain a US $6.5 billion export turnover and churn out over 1.6 million tons of processed seafood for export. By 2020, the country will earn US $8 billion from shipping seafood, he added.

In 2009, Việt Nam had 396 seafood-processing firms with the total productivity of 7,870 tons per day and night.

Mr. Tám pointed out some difficulties such as the imbalance of supply-demand and unstable consumption markets.

He said that in order to develop the sector sustainably, it is necessary to pursue a seafood processing plan which is based on full researches on provision of raw materials, productivity, markets, and conditions for future development./.
