Việt Nam treasures the Mekong-Japan cooperation mechanism

At the summit held on November 6-7 in Tokyo, leaders agreed that the cooperative ties between the GMS countries and Japan will bring about practical benefits to all sides and for peace, stability and development in the region as well as in the world.

Located at the GMS’s entrance, Việt Nam attaches special importance to and actively cooperates with the sub-regional countries, especially through the Mekong-Japan cooperation mechanism, said Vietnamese PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng at the summit.

He stressed that Việt Nam is ready to join Japan and other countries’ efforts to build up long-term cooperation plans for the common goal of development and narrower growth gaps among the GMS members.

The PM also confirmed that Việt Nam is always a reliable partner and an active member in boosting the Mekong-Japan cooperative relations.

Việt Nam has called for other countries to cooperate with each other to protect the Mekong River.

Việt Nam–Japanese relations broadened and deepened

In their talks on the sideline of the Summit, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng and his Japanese counterpart Yukio Hatoyama expressed their joy of the increasingly broadened and deepened cooperative ties between the two countries.

PM Dũng highly appreciated the new Government of Japan’s recent grant of a considerable amount of ODA to Việt Nam.

PM Yukio Hatoyama confirmed that Japan will continue to actively cooperate with Việt Nam to implement big projects agreed by the two countries, including the North-South expressway, the North-South high-speed railway and the Hoà Lạc Hi-Tech Park.

The two PMs also confirmed the closer cooperation between the two countries in regional and international organizations and forums.

Receiving officials of some big Japanese firms such as JBIC, Mitsubishi, Daiwasoken and Nihon Keidanren, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng stressed that Việt Nam is further improving its investment environment to create most favorable conditions for foreign investors, including Japanese ones.

The Japanese businessmen expressed their admiration at the Vietnamese economy’s high growth and dynamic development.

According to Mr. Muto Toshiro, former Governor of the Japanese Central Bank and Director of Daiwasoken Company, the rapid and strong recovery of the Vietnamese economy amid the global economic recession has enabled Japanese investors to trust its promising environment.
