VN proactive to prevent illegal trading of wild animals

VGP – Viet Nam stands ready to join regional and international solutions to prevent the smuggling of wild fauna and flora, said Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Vu Van Tam.

May 28, 2014 4:14 PM GMT+7

Deputy Minister Tam made the point on Tuesday in Ha Noi at the 20th anniversary of Viet Nam’s accession to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).

Viet Nam also promised to fulfill its international commitments to CITES, said Mr. Tam.

Viet Nam became the 121st member of the CITES on April 20, 1994. CITES has so far had 180 member states.

Viet Nam was defined as one of the key countries for the illegal trading of endangered and wild animals.

Over the last 20 years, Viet Nam has proactively taken part in the prevention of the illegal trade of wild fauna and flora by building a relatively sufficient legal system on the field. In addition, CITTES regulations were legalized to be applicable in Viet Nam./.
