VN raises domestic violence with RoK after woman beaten in Northeast Asian country
VGP – The Vietnamese Embassy in the Republic of Korea (RoK) has actively contacted the Vietnamese woman beaten by her Korean husband and sent representatives to visit her, willing to realize necessary citizen protection measures to protect legitimate rights and benefits and prospects of citizens.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang made that statement on July 9 in reply to the reporter’s query about Viet Nam’s citizen protection measures about a Vietnamese woman in Yeongam, South Jeolla province suffering from domestic violence.
Hang said that the Vietnamese Embassy in the RoK contacted with the local agencies to identify the case and ask local authorities to investigate and strictly handle the case in line with the RoK’s laws to prevent similar violence activities in the future.
Currently, the Vietnamese citizen is being treated at hospital with ensured security.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs discussed with the RoK’s Embassy in Viet Nam about Viet Nam’s viewpoints and the RoK’s side regretted about the case, asserting to deal with the case.
The number of marriages between Vietnamese and Koreans has increased over recent years. Most couples have a stable life, but conflicts happen in some families for different reasons.
Vietnamese officials at all levels have discussed these matters with the RoK side to protect the rights and interests as well as happiness of Vietnamese-Korean families.
The MoFA has taken many citizen protection measures, including asking competent agencies and social organizations of the RoK to teach Korean language and culture, provide vocational training and create jobs for Vietnamese citizens married to Koreans.
Besides, it has established a cooperation mechanism with the RoK Migrant Women’s Emergency Support Centre to exchange information and swiftly address emergency cases relating to Vietnamese brides in the country, while closely coordinating with the RoK Ministries of Justice, Foreign Affairs, and Gender Equality and Family to deal with incidents involving Vietnamese citizens married to Koreans.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has usually discussed the issue at the annual consular consultancy meetings between the two nations, requiring the RoK to continue close coordination and proposing measures and policies to ensure the stability and happiness of Viet Nam-RoK mixed families.
