VGP – Viet Nam confirmed 40 new community infection cases of COVID-19 on Monday afternoon, bringing the national patient tally to 2,269.

The latest cases comprise 38 in Hai Duong and two in Ha Noi, according to the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control led by Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam.

Specifically, patients 2234 and 2240 were recorded in Ha Noi. One of them is a Japanese man and the other is a 25-year-old woman in Dien Bien Ward, Ba Dinh District.

Both of them had a meeting with another Japanese man who was later found dead at a hotel in the city and tested positive for the virus.

They are being treated at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Dong Anh District.

Meanwhile, all 38 cases in Hai Duong are F1 individuals who had been in close contact with COVID-19 patients.

The same day, seven more patients were declared free of COVID-19, raising the total number of recoveries to 1,541, said the National Steering Committee.

The nation is placing 154,992 people under medical surveillance and quarantine nationwide. Of these, 667 are being kept at hospitals, 16,794 at concentrated quarantine camps, and 137,531 at places of residence.

To help citizens live safely with the pandemic, the Ministry of Health has repeatedly called on people to follow its 5K message: Khau trang (facemask) – Khu khuan (disinfection) – Khoang cach (distance) – Khong tu tap (no gathering) – Khai bao y te (health declaration)./.
