VN seeks 80,000 blood units for Lunar New Year Festival

VGP – The National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion (NIHBT) reported that patients may need up to 80,000 blood units on the occasion of the Lunar New Year Festival.

NIHBT Director Bach Quoc Khanh reported that in 2020, the institute will need about 370,000 blood units in 2020. Especially, in the period before and after the Lunar New Year Festival (from December 2019 to February 2020), the institute may need up to 80,000 blood units for emergency treatment.

In 2019, the institute received over 350,000 blood units of which Ha Noi received 65% of total amount. The institute received blood supply from 27 provinces in the Central, Central Highlands, and Southern regions.

The blood supply was given to 170 hospitals in 25 cities and provinces in the North with over 640,000 blood units, serving to save hundreds of thousands of patients./.
