The Vietnamese Government chief made the statement on March 8 in Hà Nội while hosting a reception to Mr. Lester Crown, Chairman of the Chicago Council on Global Affairs.
In 2010, Việt Nam and the US will jointly celebrate the 15th anniversary of normalizing relations. Over the last 15 years, the two countries have witnessed comprehensive progresses of their bilateral ties in all fields.
Especially, the two-way trade turnover stood at US $15 billion last year, up 10 times against 2001. So far, the US is one of the biggest investors in Việt Nam.
The PM took the occasion to suggest the US lift trade barriers on Vietnamese products including pangasius (tra and basa fish), garments and textiles; positively join hands in surmounting war effects, such as clearing bombs and mines and assisting Agent Orange victims.
PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng also recommended the US, one of the world’s leading countries in science and technology, support the Southeast Asian country to tackle climate change and sea level rise.
Treasuring the dynamic growth of Việt Nam, particularly over the last two decades, Chairman Lester Crown affirmed that American enterprises always consider Việt Nam as one of their attractive investment destinations. The Vietnamese preferential policies have generated numerous opportunities for US businesses to make profit, said the guest.
