At the meeting with diplomatic
corps on Friday in Hà Nội to review the Cultural Diplomacy Year 2009, Deputy
PM, FM Phạm Gia Khiêm thanked foreign diplomats for their active support
and sharing cultural diplomacy experience with Việt Nam last year.
In 2009, Việt Nam organized over 300 cultural activities in
other countries, welcomed more than 200 foreign art troupes, and opened 10 large-scale
field trips for foreign diplomats to different localities in Việt Nam.
The country also introduced
its cultural traditions, tangible and intangible cultural heritages to many
countries, including Spain, Italy, South
Africa and the US.
Ambassadors of the US, Republic
of Korea, Malaysia,
Italy, Germany, the UK,
South Africa, Belgium, Japan,
Brunei, and chief
representative of UNESCO highly spoke of Việt Nam’s efforts in promoting the
Cultural Diplomacy Year 2009.
They stated that the field
trips to Việt Nam’s
localities were good chances to acquire better insight in the Southeast Asian
country’s people, history and recent all-round advancements.
The UK Ambassador stressed that Việt
Nam’s images have been highlighted during the Cultural Diplomacy Year 2009. He
said that many of his friends and relatives, after watching tour programs on
Việt Nam,
want to visit the country soon.
Some diplomats suggested
that Việt Nam should expand cultural diplomatic activities to further showcase
itself to the world, contributing to the friendship and mutual understanding
among different nations.
