Human resource remains a big challenge to Việt Nam’s software industry

One hundred and forty five software enterprises, including 19 foreign-invested ones, took part in Vinasa-launched survey in May and June 2009.

Most of enterprises showed their rapid integration into the world in terms of technological standards and capability. Fifty seven companies (39%) have earned international quality certificates, including Java SE; Microsoft Certified Application Developer (MCAD); Java EE; Oracle Database: SQL Certified Expert and Microsoft Certified Professional Developer (MCPD).

About 60% of the surveyed enterprises are engaging in three activities: developing web applications; developing customer solutions; and IT consultancy. Meanwhile, 30% of the enterprises revealed that they are planning to start business process outsourcing (BPO) next year.

Insufficient human resource – biggest difficulty

Vinasa predicted that 2009 will be a very difficult year for software enterprises because 64% companies said that their growth would be low and 12% would face serious downturn and financial difficulties.

Among ten challenges to software development, the shortage of human resource remains the biggest. Others include global economic recession, IT infrastructure, foreign languages, copyright protection, capital, trademark, State’s support policies, lack of a national roadmap for the software development, and budget for research and development.

Representatives of Vinasa said that the Association will open discussions within the coming nine months with international experts to make specific proposals and solutions for software development.
