VN to check links between BCG vaccine and COVID-19
VGP - About 800 volunteers will participate in a Bacillus Calmette–Guérin (BCG) vaccination program against tuberculosis in order to find whether the vaccine can be useful in COVID-19 prevention.
The volunteers are frontline medical workers and people who have been in close contact with COVID-19 patients.
The move came up after a research conducted by a group of the US and Irish experts showed that countries that have a widespread BCG vaccination program had almost six times lower cases than nations that don’t use it.
The Ministry of Health assigned the Central Lung Hospital to co-operate with some other agencies to pilot the BCG vaccination.
BCG vaccine has been used in Viet Nam for over 30 years. It is given once to under-one-month infants./.
