Climate change imposes real challenge for Việt Nam

The strategy will be submitted to the Government at its upcoming regular meeting for consideration and approval.

The strategy is among the important grounds for promulgation of socio-economic development strategies, plans, planning schemes.

Việt Nam is one of the most vulnerable countries to global climate change in the coming years, thus the Government considers climate change adaptation as a vital issue.

The strategy sets out overall and specific targets that Việt Nam will pursue until 2050 with a vision to 2100. It will focus on some main actions such as the construction of coastal breakwaters, and irrigation works to fight seawater intrusion and prevent high tides.

According to a recent calculation by the World Bank, Việt Nam needs to spend some US $850 million each year between now and 2050 on the basic works to adapt to climate change.
