Deputy Minister of Education and Training Trần Văn Nhung revealed on July 6 that six Vietnamese students will attend the contest. Việt Nam took part in the IMO for the first time in 1974 and have consecutively ranked amongst the top-ten countries.

Currently, the IMO 2007 Organization Board is completing preparatory work to ensure a successful IMO 2007. It was reported that the 48th IMO will be served by over 500 volunteers. In March 2007, the website of IMO 2007 (http://www.imo2007.edu.vn) was launched, providing necessary information for the participants and those who are interested in the contest.

IMO 2007 also attracts some newcomers, including Saudi Arabia and Cambodia. Việt Nam plans to host the International Physical Olympiad in 2008.
