Meeting
with leader of the UK’s
Liberal Democratic Party Nick Clegg, Deputy PM Hải said that Việt Nam would
continue consolidating and enhancing relations with the European countries,
including the UK.
He
hoped that the LDP would support the comprehensive cooperation with Việt Nam with five
key pillars, namely politics-diplomacy, trade-investment, development, education
and training, and migration and organized crime control.

The
Vietnamese Deputy PM also had a meeting with Chairman Ben Chapman and members
of the UK-Việt Nam
Parliamentarians' Friendship Group.
He
praised for their valuable contributions to the Southeast Asian country and
expressed his pleasure at the regular exchange of legislative delegations,
which helps to intensify the bilateral friendship and cooperation.
The
host politicians proposed specific ways to revitalize the “Partnership for
Development” between Việt Nam
and the UK
on the basis of long-term stability and mutual interests.

In
their encounter on the same day, both Deputy PM Hải and First Secretary of
State for Business, Innovation and Skills Lord Peter Mandelson acknowledged
positive economic-trade-investment exchanges during the past years.
The
bilateral trade turnover posted a year-on-year rise of 15-20%, reaching over US
$2 billion in 2008. The UK
has 118 FDI projects in Việt Nam
with the total investment capital of more than US $2 billion.
Deputy
PM Hải asked the UK to
further assist Việt Nam
in nurturing staff for financial sector, securities, trade, banking, and
insurance.

Also on the day, Deputy PM Hải
received leaders of the UK’s
giants like Rolls-Royce and Prudential.
He confirmed that the
Vietnamese Government always welcomes and creates favorable conditions for the UK’s investors to do business in Việt Nam.
