Phuc emphasized Viet Nam has maintained good relations with the World Bank and extended thanks for the international institution’s assistance over the past many years, particularly in such fields like poverty reduction and policy consultation.

Makhtar Diop congratulated Viet Nam on its impressive growth and ensuring social security, saying many countries expect to share Viet Nam’s experience in economic development and social stabilization.

He said the World Bank stands ready to support infrastructure development and power generation.

Infrastructure development is identified as one of the top priorities in Viet Nam but the country needs diverse financial sources, including external capital.

Vice President Makhtar Diop is on his first official visit to Viet Nam from February 20-22.

As part of the visit, Makhtar Diop will also be on a field trip to Hai Phong City to witness first-hand results from the World Bank-financed projects in infrastructure development, and to understand the infrastructure needs of emerging cities in Viet Nam./.
