Binh made the above statement at his bilateral meetings with Singaporean Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat, President  Halimah Yacob and Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean on Monday.

He said that trade and investment continue to be the key pillars of the bilateral ties as Singapore is the 3rd biggest foreign investor in Viet Nam with over 2,000 projects capitalized at nearly US$50 billion.

Binh also called on Singaporean businesses to expand investment in such fields like infrastructure development, logistics, finance-banking, supporting industries and innovation in Viet Nam.

Both sides spoke highly of defense cooperation between the two countries over the past time and agreed to foster cooperation in corruption combat and mutual legal assistance.

Regarding regional and international situation, both sides agreed that the two countries share a spate of common values and interests on peace and development as well as wish to further enhance strategic trust and cooperation in the context of increasingly complicated developments and strategic competition among powers.

Singaporean leaders appreciated Viet Nam’s stance of advocating multilateral trading system and positive contributions to the negotiation process of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

They vowed to work with Viet Nam and relevant countries to soon complete negotiations for the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership.

On the East Sea issue, the two sides emphasized the importance of maintaining peace, stability, security, safety and freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea.

Both sides called for resolution of disputes through peaceful measures on the basis of international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), for full and effective implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea, and for early conclusion of an effective and practical Code of Conduct that is in line with international law./.
