VN-Cambodia joint committee meets to boost relations

VGP –  The 13th Meeting of the Cambodia-Viet Nam Joint Committee for Economic, Cultural, Scientific and Technological Cooperation, under the co-chair of Deputy PM Pham Binh Minh and his Cambodian counterpart Hor Nam Hong, successfully wrapped up in Phnom Penh, Cambodia on February 11.

The success of the meeting created a foundation for the two sides’ ministries, agencies and localities to launch cooperative agreements in the future and enhance the bilateral traditional, comprehensive and long-term relationship.
 
Two-way trade between the two countries  in 2013 reached US$3.5 billion. The two nations boosted their cooperation in education-training, telecommunication, agriculture-forestry-aquaculture, tourism, finance, banking, health, aviation, energy, oil and gas.
 
In the future, the two leaders agreed to help businesses overcome difficulties, implement licensed projects and sign cooperative agreements to raise two-way trade to US$5 billion by 2015.
 
Deputy PM Minh proposed the Cambodian side create a legal framework for Vietnamese investors, especially the right of land use.
 
The two sides affirmed their determination to complete border landmark planting for a peaceful and sustainable border.
 
The two sides were also unanimous in guaranteeing legitimate rights of their citizens when residing or doing business in their respective countries.
 
The two leaders signed the minutes of the meeting, agreeing to hold the 14th meeting in 2015.
 
The same day, Deputy PM Pham Binh Minh, who is also FM, met with Cambodian PM Hun Sen. The Cambodian PM applauded the role of the committee in promoting the two nations’ relationship.
 
PM Hun Sen asserted that he will direct Cambodian ministries, agencies and localities to cooperate with the Vietnamese side to bring into full play their achievements and agreements.
