In the ambiance of openness and mutual understanding, the two PMs showed their gladness that the bilateral relationship and cooperation have been increasingly cemented and deepened, especially in economy, trade and investment. PM Lee Hsien Long high appreciated the effective operation of the Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park in Bình Dương Province and considered it a vivid manifestation of cooperation between ASEAN members. PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng thanked Singaporean President and PM for their consolatory messages to Durian-stricken Vietnamese victims.

In the meeting, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng and PM Lee Hsien Long discussed on various measures to strengthen Vietnam-Singapore cooperation after Vietnam became a full WTO member. PM Lee Hsien Long affirmed that Singaporean enterprises always want to do investments and business in Vietnam. Singapore is willing to promote its cooperation with Vietnam in all fields, especially investment, trade and education.

The two PMs supported the ASEAN Charter and agreed that ASEAN members should enhance their internal cooperation and bilateral one as well. PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng stressed that ASEAN members should make efforts in building up a dynamic, efficient, unified and diverse ASEAN community on the basis of ASEAN principles of consensus, no intervention into internal affairs of each other, cooperation for co-development, and flexibility in new contexts. In this spirit, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng suggested Singapore back up Vietnam’s initiative: To build a powerful ASEAN community by further narrowing the development gaps between the members.
