The seminar, titled “August Impression”, brought together representatives from over 100 Thai companies and 75 Vietnamese enterprises.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Ngo Duc Thang said strengthening cooperation and investment between the two countries will help expand cooperation along the East-West Economic Corridor, contributing to the inaugural of an ASEAN Economic Community by 2015.

Permanent Secretary of the Thai Ministry of Commerce, Mr. Yanyong Phuangrach attributed rich natural resources and manpower to positive factors that draw in Thai firms to invest in Viet Nam.

Thailand has to date invested US$6.7 billion in various fields in Viet Nam, creating over 12,000 jobs. Meanwhile, Viet Nam has had 56 investment projects in Thailand, mainly in aquaculture, tourism and construction.

The two countries’ two-way trade surged to US$9.5 billion in 2011 from US$3.6 billion in 2006. Last year, Viet Nam’s exports to Thailand rose 51%, and its imports from the regional country increased 17%.

Viet Nam and Thailand have also strengthened their relations through international and regional forums such as ASEAN, GMS and ACMECs.
