VN’s FDI attraction in nine months

VGP – According to the Department of Foreign Investment under the Ministry of Planning and Investment, Việt Nam has attracted US $12.19 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) during the first nine months of 2010, equivalent to 87.3% of the same period last year.

During the period, 720 projects, worth of US $11.4 billion, have been licensed, 37.3% higher than the same period last year. Other 153 projects have been added with the total amount of US$ 783 million.

In September only, 62 projects were licensed with the total registered capital of US $616 million.

There are 48 countries and territories investing in Việt Nam during the first three quarters of 2010. The Netherlands takes the lead with US $2.2 billion, accounting for 18.2% of the total investment. Then come the Republic of Korea with US $2 billion (17%) and the US with US $1.87 billion (15.3%).

Bà Rịa–Vũng Tàu Province is the biggest FDI receiver, attracting US $2.23 billion from January to September.  Quảng Ninh Province, Hồ Chí Minh City and Nghệ An Province follow the southern province, with US $2.15 billion, 1.8 billion and 1 billion respectively.
