Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long speaks at the event

The aforementioned information was announced by Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long during a virtual meeting on December 1 to mark the World AIDS Day 2020 and to review Viet Nam’s 30-year HIV/AIDS prevention and control.

According to experts, the country's HIV/AIDS prevention and control program has helped protect about 500,000 people from HIV infection and prevented more than 200,000 AIDS-related deaths, Long said.

He affirmed that over the course of 30 years coping with the AIDS epidemic, Viet Nam has comprehensively and effectively implemented anti-AIDS activities thanks to the drastic direction of the Party and the Government, the involvement of the entire political system, the active participation of the community, the valuable support of the international community, and the proactivity of the national medical system.

The minister underscored that in the time ahead, Viet Nam’s anti-AIDS battle will continue to be further accelerated, with technical and social solutions set in the revised Law on HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control, which was recently adopted by the 14th National Assembly during its recent 10th session, offering important favorable conditions towards ultimate victory.

On the occasion of the World AIDS Day 2020, which also marks Viet Nam’s 30-year milestone in coping with the HIV/AIDS epidemic, Long expressed his gratitude to the generations of leaders and health workers, as well as ministries, departments and agencies, for their significant contributions to the fight against HIV/AIDS in Viet Nam.

He also praised and congratulated the HIV/AIDS prevention and control forces, social organizations and the community for the outstanding achievements they have attained in the work over the past years./.
