Speaking at a meeting with leaders of news agencies on May 11, Deputy PM Vu emphasized Viet Nam currently ranks 214th out of 220 countries and territories in terms of the number of confirmed cases per one million people, which is a vivid illustration of the country’s sound strategy in combatting COVID-19.

Right from the early stage of COVID-19 outbreak, the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control tasked relevant ministries to focus on researching, developing and manufacturing vaccines, the Deputy PM said.

However, given the scarcity of vaccines around the world, Viet Nam will still need to implement the same prevention and control measures as when there was no vaccine, at least until the end of 2021, he noted.

In response to recent surge in local infections, Vu urged localities to proactively prepare forces, supplies and equipment in line with the general scenario of the whole country, while adopting appropriate prevention and control measures to realize the dual goal of COVID-19 containment and economic recoveries.

The Deputy PM called on people to uphold the sense of responsibility to protect the health of themselves, their relatives, the community and the country by fully and seriously abiding by the precautious measures.

As illegal immigration triggers a high risk of transmissions, Vu said the Government told executive bodies to strictly punish those cases./.
