Viet Nam to announce medical supplies worth US$ 5 mln to ASEAN medical supplies reserve
VGP – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will announce Viet Nam’s contributions of medical supplies worth US$ 5 million to the ASEAN Regional Reserve of Medical Supplies (RRMS), said Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang.
The announcement will be made at the 38th and 39th ASEAN Summits scheduled to take place in virtual format from October 26-28, Le told reporters at a press briefing on Thursday.
The RRMS was created to strengthen ASEAN’s preparedness, prevention, detection and timely response to public health emergencies. It consists of earmarked assets of medical supplies as committed by donor countries or other donors, which will be distributed in case of public health emergencies in the region.
In November last year, Viet Nam contributed US$100,000 to the ASEAN COVID-19 Response Fund.
During the upcoming summits, ASEAN leaders will continue discussing ways to effectively realize the ASEAN Comprehensive Recovery Framework and related implementation plan.
The regional leaders are also expected to adopt ASEAN Travel Corridor Framework and look into the possibility of forming agreements to facilitate travel in the region, and mutual recognition of digital vaccination certificates.
