Vietnam economic forum opens

VNGOP – The Vietnam Economic Forum was opened in the morning of April 23 in Hồ Chí Minh City under the theme “Regionalism and modernization”. Standing Deputy PM Nguyễn Sinh Hùng attended the Forum.

The Forum attracted about 500 foreign investors, leaders of many ministries, sectors, CEOs and general directors of the leading economic groups and multinational corporations in Asia.

This is the first large-scale forum organized in Vietnam. Under the collaboration of international media agencies, at the forum, Vietnam wants to introduce her development orientations, policies, investment environment, opportunities and challenges, so that further attracts and fruitfully uses foreign investment capitals for the country's socio-economic development.

Addressing the Forum, Deputy PM Nguyễn Sinh Hùng said that the Vietnamese Government has chosen the way of renovation and creative labor for economic development in combination with environmental protection and resettlement of social issues. He pledged that Vietnam will try to create a better investment environment.

With the attendance of 16 newspapers from 12 countries and territories, the Forum functioned as a bridge linking enterprises with international media agencies, providing the community of foreign businesses and investors updated information about Vietnam, especially the message from the Vietnamese Government's head.

According to the Ministry of Planning and Investment, within the first three months of 2007, Vietnam attracted about US$ 2.5 billion of foreign investment. In 2007, Vietnam wants to mobilize US$ 12 billion, so through the Forum, Vietnamese businesses expect to learn valuable experience. At the same time, foreign investors will obtain a better understanding of Vietnam to take part in the new emerging wave of investment into this dynamic country.
