The two nations stood side by side and sacrificed their blood in the past struggles for national independence and the happiness of the people in each country, the leaders said, affirming both sides’ determination to preserve such a valuable asset and inspire it to future generations.

PM Hun Sen once again extended thanks for Viet Nam's impartial and pure assistance for Cambodia to overthrow the genocidal regime as well as Viet Nam's wholehearted support for Cambodia's national reconstruction even when Viet Nam was facing difficulties due to embargo.

He also thanked for Viet Nam’s non-refundable aid for construction of the Cambodian National Assembly building and the community-based rehabilitation center for drug addicts in Preah Sihanouk province among others.

Expressing his delight to welcome PM Hun Sen to pay an official visit to Viet Nam for the second time since 2018, PM Phuc congratulated the Cambodian PM and the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) on the significant achievements they have attained in running the country.

Both sides acknowledged the positive and practical advancements of the relationship, especially in trade and tourism sectors, and agreed to continue consolidating and enhancing the relationship under the motto of “neighbourliness, traditional friendship and comprehensive, sustainable and long-term cooperation” on the basis of trust, equality, mutual respect and benefits.

The two PMs agreed to further deepen political ties through increasing the exchange of visits and contacts at all levels, promoting the effectiveness of the bilateral dialogue and cooperation mechanisms, enhancing exchanges on strategic security issues.

Both sides vowed to coordinate closely to firmly protect the environment of peace, security and stability in each country and stick to the principle of not allowing any organizations and individuals to use one’s territory to harm the other’s security.

Regarding regional and international issues, the two PMs underlined the importance of sustaining peace, security and stability in the region.

They pledged to coordinate closely throughout the process of the ASEAN Community building and development, firmly uphold the ASEAN principles, and consolidate and promote the solidarity, self-reliance and central role of the bloc.

The pair also committed to fostering cooperation in the Cambodia-Laos-Viet Nam Development Triangle and Mekong Sub-region in order to narrow development gap and ensure sustainable management and use of the Mekong water resources, towards achieving the UN-led sustainable development goals.

Both sides also vowed to collaborate closely in 2020 as Viet Nam assumes the ASEAN Chairmanship and Cambodia hosts Asia-Europe Summit for the first time.

On October 5, the two Prime Ministers will co-chair a conference reviewing the land border demarcation and marker planting between the two sides thus far since 2006. This important historical milestone has recognized the fruits of 34 years of negotiations to get a relatively complete borderline today.

The visit is of special significance as the two countries will sign two legal documents recognizing the completion of 84% of the land border demarcation and marker planting.

The two PMs said this is an extremely important political event that marks a historic milestone in the process of dealing with border issues between the two countries, while serving as a premise for the two sides to move towards completing the land border demarcation and market planting, contributing to the building of a Viet Nam-Cambodia borderline of peace, friendship, cooperation and sustainable development.
