VGP – Chinese ships on June 11 stood some 7-11 nautical miles around the oil rig Haiyang Shiyou 981 illegally placed in Viet Nam’s waters to prevent Vietnamese vessels from approaching the rig, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The Ministry said Chinese ships were ready to ram and fire water cannons at the Vietnamese vessels. However, despite China’s aggression, the Vietnamese fisheries surveillance force still maintained its presence there to demand China immediately withdraw its oil rig and escorted ships.

The same day, China deployed some 114 ships, including 39 coast guard ships and six military ones, around the rig.

Meanwhile, Chinese fishing boats, supported by two coast guard ships, continued aggressively encircling and preventing Vietnamese fishing boats right in Viet Nam’s waters./.
