Viettel offers mobile phone services in Mozambique

VGP - Viettel has announced that Movitel, a joint venture between the Vietnamese group and a Mozambican partner, has put into operation its first base transceiver stations (BTS).

October 09, 2011 8:09 AM GMT+7

Earlier, Viettel provided mobile phone services in Cambodia, Laos and Haiti. By the end of March, Mozambique had signed up nearly 7.7 million mobile phone subscribers, or some 30% of the African country’s population.

In November 2010, Viettel won a license to provide mobile phone services in Mozambique to 80% of its population. Earlier, the country had 2 mobile phone operators, namely Mcel and Vodacom.

Viettel will put into operation nearly 1,000 BTS in all 11 cities and provinces of Mozambique by the end of this year.

Movitel has 570 employees, including 138 Vietnamese engineers and experts.
