Weekly COVID-19 Update: VN Confirms 40 New Cases, 75 Recoveries

VGP - Viet Nam documented 40 new COVID-19 cases and 75 recoveries from March 29 to April 4, according to the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control.

All the latest infections are imported cases, said the National Steering Committee led by Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam. 

They comprised two Filipino nationals (one expert and one sailor) and 38 Vietnamese nationals who were repatriated from the Philippines (16), Japan (three), Angola (eight), or returned to Viet Nam via Moc Bai International Border Gate (eight), Ha Tien International Border Gate (one), and Tay Ninh International Border Gate (2).

As of late April 4, Viet Nam reported 2,631 cases of infections, including 2,383 recoveries, and 35 fatalities.

The Ministry of Health said 9,158 frontline workers received COVID-19 vaccine shots last week, raising the total number of vaccinated people in 19 cities and provinces to 52,431 as of 4:00 pm on April 4.

Last week, the first shipment of 811,200 COVID-19 vaccine doses through the COVAX Facility arrived in Viet Nam.

To secure funding for purchase COVID-19 vaccines, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc approved additional allocation of US$53 million to the Ministry of Health.

The Government chief also ordered the health, tourism and diplomacy sectors to soon mull over a "vaccine passport" mechanism in order to promote trade and investment. 

Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Quoc Dung on April 1 presented the token of the aid worth US$ 200,000 to Cambodian Ambassador to Viet Nam Chay Navuth to support the Cambodian Government and people in the fight against COVID-19.

National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines announced a plan to resume flights on the Hanoi-Narita (Tokyo), Hanoi-Incheon (Seoul), Ha Noi-Sydney, and Ho Chi Minh City-Sydney routes from April 1 to June 30, 

The Civil Aviation Authority of Viet Nam (CAAV) submitted a plan on the reopening of international flights in three stages to the Ministry of Transport.

To live safely with the pandemic, the health ministry advised people to remain proactive in pandemic prevention and control by continuing to wear face masks when going out, disinfecting frequently, maintaining a safe distance, refraining from mass gatherings, and making medical declarations./.
