Weekly COVID-19 Update: VN Reports 42 New Cases, 166 Recoveries

VGP - Viet Nam confirmed 42 new COVID-19 infection cases and 166 recoveries from March 8-14, according to the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control.

The latest cases included nine locally-transmitted cases and 33 imported ones.

All the local infections were confirmed in Hai Duong Province - the epicenter of Viet Nam’s third wave of COVID-19. Specially, one case was found as a result of screening tests for high-risk people. The rest of eight patients were people who had close contacts with COVID-19 patients, were quaratined at desginated sites, posing no risks to community infection.

The imported cases inclued eight foreign experts from Chinese Taipei (one), China (three), the Philippines (two), the Hong Kong (one), and Japan (one). Meanwhile, the rest were 25 Vietnamese nationals who repatriated from the Philippines (eight), UAE (11), Malaysia (one), United Arab Emirates (two), Sweden (one), the U.S. (two), and Germany (two).

As of late March 14, Viet Nam confirmed 1,594 locally transmitted cases, including 898 cases since the resurgence from January 27.

Thirteen localities have been hit by the third wave of COVID-19, namely Hai Duong (717 cases), Quang Ninh (61), HCMC (36), Ha Noi (34), Gia Lai (27), Binh Duong (six), Bac Ninh (five), Dien Bien (three), Hoa Binh (two), Bac Giang (two), Hung Yen (three), Hai Phong (four), and Ha Giang (one).

Ten out of the above 13 localities have gone 29 days with zero new cases in the community, including Hoa Binh, Dien Bien, Ha Giang, Binh Duong, Hung Yen, Bac Giang, Gia Lai, Bac Ninh, Quang Ninh, and HCMC. 

No new case has been confirmed in Ha Noi over the past 26 days. Since the latest positive case, Hai Phong has gone 19 days without locally-transmitted cases.

The national COVID-19 tally stands at 2,554 with 2,086 recoveries and 35 fatalities.

As of late March 14, the country had vaccinated 11,605 people in 12 localities with COVID-19 outbreaks since March 8. Five of them are hospitalized after developing complications such as anaphylaxis, diarrhea, allergies and low pulse pressure.
