Weekly COVID-19 Update: VN Reports 91 Imported Cases, 46 Recoveries

VGP - Viet Nam documented 91 newly imported COVID-19 cases and 46 recoveries from April 12-18, according to the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control.

The latest cases included six foreign experts from India (three), Germany (one), the U.S. (one), and China (one).

All the others are Vietnamese nationals brought home from Japan (42), UAE (ten), Angola (three), the RoK (one), Qatar (two), Germany (one), Czech (two), Russia (ten), the U.S (two), the Philippines (five), Thailand (one), Rumania (one) or returned to Viet Nam via Ha Tien International Border Gate (three) and Long Binh International Border Gate (two).

As of late April 18, Viet Nam reported 2,784 infection cases, including 2,475 recoveries, and 35 fatalities.

The nation has gone 23 straight days with no new community infection case. The final COVID-19 patient in Hai Duong Province - the epicenter of Viet Nam's third wave of local transmission - was released from hospital on April 16. 

The Ministry of Health (MoH) said additional 10,415 frontline workers received COVID-19 shots last week, raising the total number of vaccinated people to 79,182 in 22 cities and provinces.

Dozens of tons of essential goods, including food and medical supplies were allocated to Vietnamese Cambodians over the past week amidst the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in the neighboring country. The relief aid, contributed by agencies and organisations in Viet Nam’s provinces bordering Cambodia like Binh Phuoc, Dong Nai, An Giang and Dong Thap, have also come to those working on the frontline against COVID-19 in the neighboring country.

As many as 9.1 million Vietnamese people aged 15 and above were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in the first quarter of this year, Director of the Department of Population and Labor Statistics under the General Statistics Office (GSO) Pham Hoai Nam told a press conference on April 16.

Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long on April 16 again asked localities to continue keeping a close watch on the COVID-19 situation and to strictly implement pandemic prevention measures in the time to come, especially in border areas./.
