Weekly COVID-19 update: 1,791 new cases, 630 recoveries

VGP – There were 1,791 new COVID-19 cases and 630 recoveries from June 7-13, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH).

 Weekly COVID-19 infections and recoveries in Viet Nam

The latest infections, comprising of 83 imported cases and 1,711 locally-transmitted cases, brought the national caseload to 10,538.

During the past week, Viet Nam reported a record number of 630 recovered patients, raising the total recoveries to 3,998 while the death toll rose by six to 59.

The past week also saw an increase in donations to the national COVID-19 vaccine fund, taking the total donation value to more than VND 4.84 trillion (US$ 210.2 million) from 283,169 organizations and individuals as of 5:00 pm on June 12.

* The Health Ministry on June 12 granted conditional approval of Comirnaty vaccine manufactured by Pfizer Manufacturing Belgium NV and Germany’s BioNTech Manufacturing GmbH for domestic emergency use. This is the fourth vaccine to receive such authorization after Oxford/AstraZeneca, Sputnik V, and Sinopharm’s Vero Cell.

* Businesses that fail to meet COVID-19 prevention and control requirements must suspend operations, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam ordered at a meeting in Ha Noi on June 11.

* Viet Nam began the third phase of human trials of the home-grown Nano Covax vaccine on June 11 with the participation of first 240 volunteers.

This final phase will be carried out by the Military Medicine University in Hung Yen province and by the HCMC Pasteur Institute in the southern provinces of Long An and Tien Giang.

At least 1,000 volunteers have been selected for the trials at the Military Medicine University and Ben Luc district in Long An province. These volunteers will be administered with 25mcg, the lowest dose for this stage./.
