VGP – Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam has tasked the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to work with the Viet Nam National UNESCO Committee to send a nomination report on the Complex of Yen Tu Monuments and Landscape to the UNESCO seeking to be enlisted in the organisation’s list of heritages that are entitled to making dossiers for world heritage status recognition.

This report will replace the one currently posted on the website of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre.

The People’s Committee of northern Quang Ninh province was asked to work with the local authorities of Bac Giang and Hai Duong provinces and related agencies to compile a dossier seeking the world heritage status for this complex.

The Complex of Yen Tu Monuments and Landscape comprises four clusters of special national historical relics namely the Yen Tu historical relic and landscape area (Uong Bi city of Quang Ninh), the Tran Dynasty historical relic area (Dong Trieu town of Quang Ninh), the Western Yen Tu relic and landscape area (Bac Giang), and the Con Son - Kiep Bac - Thanh Mai complex (Hai Duong).

Earlier, Deputy PM Dam also assigned the National Commission for UNESCO of Viet Nam to work with the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism to submit dossiers seeking UNESCO’s recognition of “Ha Long Bay-Cat Ba Archipelago” as a World Heritage site.

So far, Viet  Nam houses eight UNESCO-recognized heritage sites namely Imperial Citadel of Thang Long, Citadel of Ho Dynasty, Complex of Hue Monuments, Ha Long Bay, Hoi An Ancient Town, My Son Sanctuary, Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, and Trang An Landscape Complex.

Since 2019, the country has submitted seven dossiers for other UNESCO heritage recognition including the area of old carved stone in Sapa, Ba Be – Na Hang Natural Heritage Area, Cat Tien National Park, the Complex of Yen Tu Monuments and Landscape, Con Moong Cave, Ha Long Bay – Cat Ba Archipelago, and Huong Son Complex of Natural Beauty and Historical Monuments./.
