Deputy PM Nguyen Thien Nhan, who presented at the event on February 18, handed over the certificate to Quang Ninh provincial authorities.

The site is the 11th special national relic in the country.

Speaking at the event, Deputy PM Nhan highlighted that Yen Tu represents a bright historic and cultural period in Great Viet (Dai Viet) which is the former name of Viet Nam.

The site is considered as the holy land of Vietnamese Buddhism. Some 700 years ago, King-Monk Tran Nhan Tong left his throne to serve Buddha in Yen Tu Mountain and formed the Truc Lam Yen Tu Zen sect, which laid the foundation for Vietnamese Buddhism.

Tangible and intangible cultural heritages of Yen Tu have displayed Vietnamese people’s self-reliance and national unity in national construction and protection.

The same day, the PM issued Decision 334 to ratify a project on expansion and development of Yen Tu.

The US$90 million project is expected to assist local authorities and local residents to embellish and restore the special national relic.

Festival organizers reported that the three-month festival is expected to welcome three million pilgrims and visitors./.
