The opening ceremony drew the participation of Deputy PM Nguyễn Thiện Nhân, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoàng Tuấn Anh, tens of thousands of domestic and foreign tourists, and local residents.

The Party and State have put forth a Resolution on Việt Nam’s Sea Strategy to 2020 aiming to turn the country into a strong sea-based country in order to make full use of the country’s important geographic locations, said Deputy PM Nguyễn Thiện Nhân.

We are responsible for protecting sea and islands and boosting marine-based economy for better lives of not only ourselves but also our future generations, he added.

Under the theme “Nha Trang – the Sea rendezvous”, the festival is being held from June 11-15 with over 60 activities of culture, art, sports, and tourism.

During the festival, a photography exhibition about the Trường Sa (Spratly) archipelago, as well as seminars, art shows on sea and island culture will be held.

Other activities will take place during the event, including an underwater collective wedding ceremony in Hòn Mu sea reserve, a Vespa parade and Volkswagen parade in streets.

The city hopes to lure around 100,000 domestic and foreign guests to partake in the festival.
