The satellite receivers will enable these boats to access to database on remote sensing oceanographic images and define rich fishing grounds.

In addition, they will inform boat crew of bad weather and dangerous waters and track boat positions at sea and maintain contact with boats in case problems arise.

The State will sponsor the installation and operation costs of the satellite system within three years.

Earlier, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) selected boats among 3,000 to be equipped with satellite receivers under the project.

The “Observation system for fishing boats, fishing grounds and fisheries resources” –Movimar - being conducted by the MARD meets all criteria of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

So far, the southern province of Bên Tre has installed 200 satellite receivers on offshore fishing boat.

The Department of Fishery Exploitation and Resources Protection of Ninh Thuận is promptly reviewing the number of offshore fishing vessels deemed to be installed with satellite equipment in Q3.

Under the project, the southern province of Quảng Ngãi will provide 280 free-of-charge satellite equipment for its fishing fleet./.
