Seafood export up 24.8% in 7 months

VGP - Seafood exports rose 24.8% to US $3.1 billion in the first 7 months of this year, according to the Việt Nam Association of Seafood Exporters and Processors (VASEP).

Surges in export value were recorded in such the key markets as the US (48.8%), China (60.5%) and Canada (66.2%).

Việt Nam has so far this year exported over 115,000 tons of prawns and shrimps worth over US $1.1 billion, up 15% in volume and 35% in value, the VASEP said.

The average export price of prawns and shrimps was US $9.53 per kg in the first half of this year, up 15.6% year on year. In Việt Nam, prices of prawns and shrimps for processing them for export have increased by VND60,000-70,000 to VND160,000-250,000.

Most of prawn processing plants in the Mekong Delta are facing shortages of materials, operating at 40-50% of their capacity.
