VN faces increasing stomach cancer cases

VGP - Over 13,000 Vietnamese people are diagnosed with stomach cancer each year and nearly 10,000 of them died, according to Dr. Nguyễn Tuyết Mai, Head of the Incretology Department of Hà Nội K Hospital.

Late medical examination is blamed for increasing deaths among stomach cancer patients in Việt Nam. This cancer ranks third among ten most deadly diseases popular in the country.

Dr. PhD Nguyễn Bá Đức – Vice President of the Vietnamese Cancer Association said the majority of the patients go for medical checks too late.

Thousands of new cases found each year but the reason has not been clearly identified. However, studies show that water containing Helicobacter Pylori bacteria, regimen, smoking, alcohol addiction, hereditary are among key agents.

Furthermore, correct diagnosis can only be done in big cities like Hà Nội and Hồ Chí Minh City. Local- and district-level hospitals are capable of performing cancer stomach cancer surgeries but the efficiency is still low.

The World Health Organization said stomach cancer can be found in both men and women.  Around one million new stomach cancer cases are diagnosed each year, mostly in Asia and over 800,000 of them died.
