FDI disbursement hits US $8.2 bln

VGP - Foreign direct investment (FDI) disbursement hit US $8.2 billion in the first nine months, marking a year-on-year increase of 1.9%, announced the General Statistics Office (GSO).

As of September 20, 675 new foreign-invested projects, valued US 8.23 billion were granted licenses, equivalent to 69% of the same period last year.

In addition, 178 operating projects received the competent authorities’ approval to raise their capital by a combined amount of US $1.67 billion.

According to the GSO, foreign investors registered US $9.9 billion in the first nine months of the year which represented a year-on-year decrease of 28%.

The industrial processing and manufacturing sectors drew massive interests from foreign players, seeing 300 newly-registered projects worth US $4.91 billion.

Big projects licensed in the reviewed period included the Hải Dương JAKS Electricity Ltd Company’s thermal power plant with a total registered capital of US $2.26 billion, and the largest US-based solar panel manufacturer First Solar’s thin-film solar modules production project with over US $1 billion./.
