Speaking at the event, Deputy PM Vũ Văn Ninh pointed out that green growth is not only a driving force for global economic recovery but also a model of sustainable development.

With 60% of the world population, and 55% of the global GDP, ASEM must contribute actively to joint efforts towards a green economy, Deputy PM Ninh emphasized.

He suggested the forum to focus on sharing experience, clarifying the content of green growth, proposing measures for ASEM policy coordination, and coming up with initiatives for the UN Summit on sustainable development in Brazil next year.

In his remarks, Deputy FM Đoàn Xuân Hưng expressed his belief that the forum will play as an effective platform for ASEM cooperation, and represent ASEM’s responsibility for addressing global issues.

During the two day event, delegates will discuss green growth models, experience and policies, and proposals for ASEM cooperation in this area.

Vietnamese delegates are expected to introduce the country’s new vision of economic restructuring and orientations for green development towards 2020.

The forum’s proposals will be reported to the 4th ASEM Environment Ministers’ Meeting in Mongolia in May 2012, and ASEM senior officials’ meeting in Japan from October 27-28, 2011.

The ASEM Green Growth forum, initiated by Việt Nam, is co-chaired by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
