DPM receives IAEA chief

VGP – Deputy PM Vũ Văn Ninh on October 3 in Hà Nội hosted a reception to Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Yukiya Amano who is on a working visit to Việt Nam.

Deputy PM Ninh emphasized that Việt Nam pledges to apply nuclear energy for peaceful purposes and thanked IAEA’s role and contributions to promoting the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes and strengthening nuclear safety and security in Việt Nam.

The Deputy PM said that safe application of nuclear energy for economic development is of great significance. Việt Nam selected Russia and Japan as the two partners for its nuclear power plant projects.

Việt Nam hoped IAEA would continue assisting Việt Nam in finalizing a law on ensuring nuclear energy safety, building nuclear energy infrastructure, completing management apparatus in the field and sharing experience in applying nuclear energy in socio-economic development, the host leader said. 

For his part, IAEA General Director Yukiya Amano spoke highly of Việt Nam’s consistent policy on nuclear power development for peaceful purposes.

Mr. Yukiya Amano affirmed that the IAEA stands ready to back the Southeast Asian country in terms of technology, infrastructure, institution building, and nuclear power security.
