Poor household income set to increase 1.6 times

VGP - The average income of poor households nationwide is set to rise 1.6 times this year over last year, according to the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs.

The income of poor families in mountainous and ethnic areas is projected to increase 2.5 times.

The rate of poor households nationwide is expected to drop 2% a year and 4% in poor districts and communes.

State monies for poverty reduction in 2012 are estimated to increase over 2011, with some VND 200-250 billion for each district.

The financial assistance from the central state budget for poverty reduction in the 2009-2011 period was VND 8,535 billion, or VND 130 billion for each poor district. Assistance from other sources, including ODA, funds from the Government bonds…, for 62 districts in the reviewed period was VND 22,000 trillion, or VND 118 billion a district a year.

So far, most of makeshift houses in 62 poor districts nationwide have been replaced by permanent ones.
