VN to export 7.3 million tons of rice in 2012
VGP – The output of paddy rice in 2012 is estimated to reach 42.5 million of tons, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).

Of the figure, the total domestic demand is estimated to stand at 29 million of tons of paddy rice. The remaining 13.5 million tones, which are equal to 7.3 million of rice, can be used for export.
The MARD has asked the Ministry of Trade to cooperate with the Việt Nam Food Association to balance the rice volume for export and the purchase of rice for farmers.
It has also suggested pushing up the consumption of Winter-Spring rice to prevent the price from falling to cause economic damage for farmers, especially those in the Mekong Delta.
