HCMC on its way to become a developed city

VGP – After 37 years of liberation, Ho Chi Minh City has made outstanding efforts to become a developed city in Vietnam as well as in the Southeast Asia.

Accordingly, the city’s Party, authorities and local people have proposed and launched the Party and State’s policies and guidelines to gain crucial achievements.

Ho Chi Minh City has succeeded in improving the economic growth rate, shifting economic structure, increasing the density of value-added and high-tech industries.

The city also enhances the quality of planning and management, upgrading infrastructure and new urban areas and controlling environmental pollution.

The human resources development program has been carried out, which made great development in the city’s education and training method. In addition, the leaders of the city have paid due attention to improving material and spiritual lives of local people, guaranteeing national security and order and raising the effectiveness of judicial and foreign affairs reforms.

Especially, Ho Chi Minh City has improved its capacity of taking care for citizens’ health.

The city set the target to achieve the gross domestic product (GDP) of 12% per year in the phase from 2011-2020 and the GDP per capital of around US $8,500 by 2020.

To realize the target, Ho Chi Minh City plans to accelerate main sectors like international commerce, finance, banking credit, logistics, imports and exports, transportation and tourism.
