VN hails UNDP Initiative for Sustainable Energy

The Deputy PM highly valued UNDP’s support for the socio-economic development projects in Vietnam.

The host leader said that Vietnam is preparing for the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio 20) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Regarding the UNDP Sustainable Energy for All Initiative, he said Vietnam advocated increased activities in the three priority areas: ensuring universal access to modern energy services, doubling the global rate of improvement in energy efficiency, and doubling the share of renewable energy       in the global energy mix. The initiative is suitable to Vietnam’s reality, he added.

Ms. Pratibha Mehta said that the objectives of the initiative would be attained by 2030.

The UNDP Chief Representative also welcomed Vietnam’s strong support for realizing the initiative. She also believed that the 'Rio 20' would open up numerous opportunities for the country to lure more external resources to fulfill the initiative./.
