VN’s exports to Japan surge 45%

VGP – Two-way trade turnover between Viet Nam and Japan in the first six months of 2012 reached US$12 billion, up 28% against the same period last year.

Viet Nam’s export value to Japan is estimated at US$7 billion, up 45%.

On lifting Viet Nam-Japan trade ties to a new development phase, a conference was jointly held in Tokyo on August 28 by the Business Affairs Section of Viet Nam’s Embassy in Japan, the Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the ASEAN-Japan Center.

Exports of several Vietnamese commodities to Japan experienced a sharp increase in the first half, such as crude oil, which brought home nearly US$934 million, or up 245% in value from the same period last year.

Currently, Japan is Viet Nam’s largest crude oil importer, accounting for more than 40% of the country’s crude oil export value.

Commercial Counselor of the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan Nguyen Trung Dung revealed that Japan has become the third largest trading partner and second largest exporter of Viet Nam in recent years.

In 2011, the two countries’ trade reached more than US$21 billion, of which export value of Viet Nam to Japan was worth nearly US$11 billion, up 39%.
