Trading in local specialties encouraged in Hội An

VGP - The central province of Quảng Nam will tighten business activities in its well-known tourist attraction of Hội An Old City since July 7 in an effort to preserve this UNESCO-recognized world heritage site.

Hội An Old City was recognized the World Cultural Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1999

Accordingly, the city authority encourages the activities relating to artistic creation, art performance, preservation. The trading in local specialties, souvenirs, and traditional medicine is also facilitated.

All retailers are required not to use white-light bulbs, halogen lights and plastic mannequins.

At the stipulated sightseeing sites, the trading of all kinds are banned; the sale of wood, ceramic or rattan souvenirs only is permitted at the private-owned sites.

The Old City received up to 280,000 tourists for the first quarter of 2008, according to the Việt Nam National Administration of Tourism.
