Foreign Ministry Spokesman Lê Dũng said that the event is an important step forward to promote Vietnam-US ties, meeting aspirations of the two countries’ peoples, and marking the full normalization of the bilateral relations, particularly in economy and trade. This was resulted from great efforts made by the two sides in normalizing bilateral ties as well as the desire to build a better Vietnam-US relationship.

The approval of PNTR is expected to pay the way for the two countries to realize their commitments to the World Trade Organization and the Vietnam-US Bilateral Agreement on Vietnam’s entry in WTO. The event will create more opportunities for cooperation between the two countries, especially their business communities.

According to Mr. Lê Dũng, Vietnam is convinced that the approval of PNTR will help enhance the recent progress in Vietnam-US ties, developing them into the ones of constructive partnership, friendship and multi-faceted cooperation on the basis of equality, mutual respect and shared benefit
