CPI rises 1.25% in January

VGP- Viet Nam’s consumer price index (CPI) in January increased 1.25% against last December, mainly due to hikes in prices and charges of food, foodstuffs, medicines and healthcare services, the General Statistics Office announced on January 24.

Among 11 groups of products and services used to calculate CPI, 10 saw price hikes.

The price of medicines and charges of healthcare services surged the most – 7.4%.

The prices of food slightly rose by 0.15% while that of foodstuffs went up sharply by 1.96%.

Garments, headwear and footwear increased by 1.3%. Only charges of posts and telecommunications services dropped 0.05%.

The price of gold in January dropped 1.73% and that of US dollar declined 0.08% against December 2012, the Office said.
