Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan made this statement at his recent meeting with Thai PM Yingluck Shinawatra on the sidelines of the ongoing 2nd Asia Pacific Water Summit (APWS2) in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

He also expressed wishes to receive the Thai Government’s support and learn from its experience for hosting successfully the 2nd Mekong River Commission Summit in 2014.

Both expressed their pleasure with new developments in bilateral friendship and comprehensive cooperation.

They exchanged several international and regional issues of mutual concern, some issues related to Vietnamese workers in Thailand, and agreed on enhancing negotiations to soon sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on labor cooperation between the two countries.

Deputy PM Nhan appreciated PM Shinawatra’s invitations to visit Thailand that she sent to Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and PM Nguyen Tan Dung, adding that they, together with the third joint cabinet meeting this year, will create a momentum to lift the bilateral relations to a new height.

He also spoke of the Thai King’s important role in monitoring the country’s irrigation and protecting water resources to ensure stable lives for Thai people and minimize natural disasters’ effects.

Regarding the APWS2, Deputy PM Nhan affirmed that it is a good opportunity for regional delegates to discuss effective measures to protect and use sustainably water resources.
