€ 2.4 mln for sustainable tra fish chain 

VGP – The Viet Nam Cleaner Production Centre (VNCPC), the Viet Nam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) and other partners have officially launched a project “Building up sustainable pangasius supply chain - SUPA” partly funded by the EU.

The project will be executed within 4 years (2013 - 2017), focusing on promoting capacity-building, encouraging quality-aware production, minimizing environmental impacts and reducing production cost by applying resources efficiency and cleaner production (RE-CP). 

According to Counsellor in development cooperation of the EU Berenice Muraille, the project will help increase the competitiveness of Vietnamese pangasius in the global market.

Under this project, the EU will support the farm-to-able pangasius supply chain in Viet Nam. It is expected to have at least 70% of pangasius producers and processors, and 30% of food producers and farms applied the RE-CP method.

In addition, at least 50% of the processing enterprises will supply sustainable products in compliance with the standards required by the EU, the largest consumption market of pangasius.

The project cost about € 2.4 million, including € 1.9 million funded by the EU./.
